Next week we're teaching a new edition of our pre-semester workshop on data visualization and mapping at the Urban School, Sciences Po. This edition explores the augmented cost of living, using La Rochelle as our case study.
The starting premise: rent alone doesn't tell you what a place costs. Add the commute to reach a job, and the energy it takes to heat a poorly insulated home, and a "cheap" address can turn out to be the expensive one. Over two and a half days, students will layer housing, mobility, and energy data onto the same map of La Rochelle's agglomeration, building visualizations that can produce new research questions and insights on this phenomenon.
