MLOL (MediaLibraryOnline) is Italy's leading digital lending platform. In simple terms, it lets members of any library that has adopted MLOL freely borrow ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, and films, and use them on a computer, phone or tablet, no waiting, no physical copy involved. It's used daily by thousands of libraries, schools, universities and cultural institutions across Italy and abroad.
Over fifteen years the service grew steadily, but its interface and visual identity evolved only incrementally, in response to individual needs rather than an overall plan. At the end of 2023 we started working with MLOL to rethink the platform as a whole: research into how librarians and readers use it today, a new visual identity, a design system to apply it consistently, and a redesign of every interface, from the catalog to the tools librarians use to manage their collections.
