Tracce is a visual catalogue collecting 3,323 satellite images taken during the ski seasons from 2016 to 2023, portraying 29 ski resorts in Lombardy where most slopes sit at altitudes below 2,000 metres. Brought together into a collective narrative, the images document the environmental impact of these ski areas and aim to open a space for debate and counter-narrative around a winter tourism model built almost entirely on the monoculture of downhill skiing — a model made possible only by artificial snow. The project was realized in the context of the OFFTopic political lab.
